Today NASA announced that they have discovered a new life form, not in outer space, but here on earth, at Mono Lake in California. What makes it new you ask? Well, there are 6 basic elements that we “knew” were essential to life. These are carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and sulfur. NASA’s newest discovery however, traded its phosphorus for something much more… poisonous. This new creature eats and is made up of arsenic. Though it is only a tiny micro-organism, the implications of this discovery carry farther than the largest telescope can see. It opens up the possibility that life can thrive on planets unlike earth. Planets that until now, would have been looked over, because their environments were said to be inhabitable. Billy thinks this is pretty cool. Maybe not as cool as shaved ice, but cool none-the-less.
