Meet Cuypi (Sebastien Cuypers), an under-appreciated French graphic designer and illustrator. He has a knack for hand drawn type with a character of it’s own, as well as fun and expressive character illustrations. His style is fun, quirky, light hearted, and sometimes sarcastic. His work ranges from T-shirts, to vinyl toys, posters and other graphic design, and illustrations for all types of media. The above pictures are from his first solo exhibition. Check him and more of his work out at www.cuypi.com.

ALIENS! Well… Kind of.

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

Today NASA announced that they have discovered a new life form, not in outer space, but here on earth, at Mono Lake in California. What makes it new you ask? Well, there are 6 basic elements that we “knew” were essential to life. These are carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and sulfur. NASA’s newest discovery however, traded its phosphorus for something much more… poisonous. This new creature eats and is made up of arsenic. Though it is only a tiny micro-organism, the implications of this discovery carry farther than the largest telescope can see. It opens up the possibility that life can thrive on planets unlike earth. Planets that until now, would have been looked over, because their environments were said to be inhabitable.  Billy thinks this is pretty cool. Maybe not as cool as shaved ice, but cool none-the-less.  Here is a picture (click to see the whole article):

Shave Tips for Men by Razor MD: Featuring BJ Product!

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

The Life of Luxury recently featured Razor MD in their blog, “Shave Tips for Men by Razor MD.” In this article, Razor MD offers some awesome shaving tips & suggests some Billy Jealousy product that will get you the best shave.

“Most men will agree, they absolutely hate having to shave each morning.  Looking for some helpful men shaving tips?

The first step is the prep. Guys, do us all a favor and take a hot shower before you shave.

Why would you risk taking a sharp blade to your face, without making sure to have opened your pores and making sure you’re relaxed? We, guarantee this step alone will deliver a better shave!

The next step is the pre-shave. We recommend using a pre-shave oil which will moisten the skin, loosen the beard and help the razor glide easily on your face.

We like the “Hot Towel” product by our friends at Billy Jealousy. The cool part of this Billy J Hot Towel product is that when rubbed on your face, it warms up as if you were getting a true, hot towel shave at home.

Next step is to get your shave on. We recommend using a badger hair shave brush by Razor MD as the most efficient way to apply shave cream . This is an often overlooked but very important step and is more cost effective in the long run.

The badger shave brush will help reduce the amount of shave cream used by spreading it out evenly, with the grain and at the same time, helping to penetrate the beard much deeper.

TIP: Once done shaving, rinse off your face with lukewarm to slightly cold water, to help close any cuts. Pat your face dry with a clean towel and rinse off your razor and badger shave brush to eliminate any bacteria from gathering.

Next step is the post shave. We recommend using an alcohol-free, post-shave solution that will calm your beard and help minimize any cuts or redness. For this, we recommend the Ice product by Billy Jealousy.

TIP: If you have any cuts or slight bleeding, take a styptic pencil, wet it and rub over cut. The cut will instantly begin to close up and start healing. Lucky for you, Razor MD sends with our products a Match-book of Septic sticks to keep with you in case of any shave emergencies.

TIP: If you have any redness and have a hot date or somewhere to be, take some Visine eye drops, dab on a cotton pad and apply to redness area for about 60 seconds. The same properties in Visine that reduce redness in ones eyes also reduce redness on skin. This could mean the difference of going home alone or not…

Lastly, it’s important to apply an oil-free moisturizer to your entire face after shaving, for god’s sake son you just took a razor blade to your mug and it needs to heal and re-hydrate. By using oil-free stuff, you eliminate the risk of getting that chappy, dry skin look that comes along with seasonal weather changes.

You also eliminate being the guy with the oily skin, or what girls refer to as a “shine” face.
TIP: Girls don’t like oil, thus by not using any alcohol based shave products, you won’t dry out your face, trust us.

If you don’t, you will actually cause your face to produce more oil to make up for the dryness and coupled with an oil based moisturizer, you just voluntarily created enough oil to make a good set of French fries but not any action if ya know what were saying.

the Wisdom of Sun-Safe Skin

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Just by protecting your skin from the sun, you can prevent signs of aging & reduce your risk of skin cancer.

We suggest adding Combat Lines, Face Moisturizer SPF 30 to your daily routine. It fights the signs of premature aging, increases skin elasticity & protects the skin from free radical damage. Check it out here.

Here are some more helpful tips to minimize your exposure to the sun’s harmful rays.

1)  Wear sunscreen every day, no matter what.

Sunscreen is the most effective anti-aging skincare product, so wear it every day– rain or shine!

2)  Choose wisely.

Always wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen, which protects against both UVA & UVB rays, with a SPF of 15 or higher. Note, the bigger the SPF number, the better the sun protection.

3)  Stay in the shade.

When possible, avoid outdoor activities between the hours of 10 AM to 4 PM, when the sun’s rays are the strongest. If your shadow is shorter than you, UV rays are at their strongest.

4)  Reapply sunscreen.

Be sure to reapply sunscreen frequently, especially after swimming, perspiring heavily or drying off with a towel.

5)  Cover up.

Wear a hat with a 4 inch brim- it will keep the areas protected that are often exposed to the sun (neck, ears, eyes, nose, etc). Also, wear clothing to protect the skin as much as possible. Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, or long skirts. Choose tightly woven fabrics and dark colors.

6)  Wear your shades.

To protect your eyes from sun damage, wear sunglasses that block 99 to 100-percent of UVA and UVB radiation. No matter what season it is, wear your sunglasses for protection.

7)  Know your skin.

Early detection is the best defense in treating skin cancers. Always be on the lookout for new skin spots or changes in existing spots on your body. See your dermatologist regularly for full body exams.

RazorsDirect.com

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Picture_9_biggerThis week I’ve been focusing on three new dot-com customers of Billy Jealousy’s.   Our third and final one is RazorsDirect.com.  Best way I can describe RazorsDirect.com is it’s a razor super-store!  They carry every Gillette blade you can think of as well as blades by Schick and even Headblade.  They have recently started carrying grooming lines like Billy Jealousy, Amenity and Grooming Lounge.

In addition to blades, RazorsDirect.com sells razor handles , electric razors, shaving accessories and oral care items.  They offer free shipping to all U.S. locations, bulk discounts and a 100% satisfaction guarantee on every order.

Getting a great shave involves using two products:  a premium shave cream like Hydroplane and a high-quality razor like a Gillette Fusion or Schick Quattro.  The beauty of RazorsDirect.com is you can purchase both products at one place.

Lastly RazorsDirect.com is offering a special  Billy Jealousy promo (http://www.razorsdirect.com/billyjealousy.html), whereby customers can get a free travel kit with the purchase of the Billy Jealousy shave trio (for a limited time only).

MensDirect.com

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

mens-directOver 10 years ago, brothers Max and Neil Glazer launched a successful Web Site called PilotMall.com.   Hailed as an aviation superstore, PilotMall.com sells thousands of products for professional and amateur pilots.  Leveraging their dot-com expertise, the Glazer brothers decided to launch MensDirect.com in March.  Offering free shipping on all ground orders, MensDirect.com sells a wide array of grooming products such as Billy Jealousy, Hommage, Anthony, Sharps, Jack Black, Menscience, Urth and Lucky Tiger.  MensDirect.com offers live support Mon-Fri and offers the same great service as PilotMall.com

I had the fortune of visiting the brothers’ operation in St Petersburg, Florida, back in February.   Located next to historic Albert Whitted Airport, PilotMall.com buzzes smoothly as the business fill hundreds of orders daily.  The brothers make a great team:  brainy, behind-the-scenes Neil does all the backend Web Site work while outgoing Max is the sales and marketing arm of the business.  Congratulations to Max and Neil on their successful launch!

The Motley

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Motley LogoTalented LA-based filmmaker and photographer Matt Ruggieri has launched a new grooming Site called TheMotley.com.   Matt wanted to share with his customers quality grooming products that were superior to drugstore brands but shied away from the $100 eye creams and $150 anti-aging serums.  Matt has tried so many products over the years that he has expertly pieced together “kits” featuring several products that will maximize your grooming results.  Brands included on his Site are Billy Jealousy, Cremo, Propoline and Philip B.
